The Reisher Scholars Program Welcomes 140 Colorado Students

The Denver Foundation

Congratulations to 140 outstanding Colorado students selected as Reisher Scholars in the 2019-20 academic year. Students were selected based on their academic record, financial need, and potential for community leadership.

Through the Reisher Scholars Program, The Denver Foundation partners with six Colorado public universities to bring together a cohort of diverse students with unmet financial need, ranging from $4,000–11,000. Based on both need and merit, these awards leverage other federal, state, and institutional aid to help cover students' cost of attendance. In addition, Reisher Scholars receive academic and social support, from faculty in student services, and the peers in their cohort.

The Reisher Scholars Program serves students who have completed their first year at a partner university and those transferring from community college to a partner university. While many scholarships award students at the start of their college journeys, the Reisher Scholars Program is uniquely designed to provide students with the means and support to graduate on time.

From 2001 to 2018, 1,521 Reisher Scholars have received $23.2 million in scholarship funding, and more than 1,000 have graduated from college. In 2020, Colorado State University-Pueblo will become the Reisher Program’s seventh partner school, joining the University of Northern Colorado, Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Colorado Denver, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Colorado State University, and Colorado Mesa University.

The Reisher Scholars Program was established in 2001 by Roger and Margaret Reisher, who were the first in their families to graduate from college. With a desire to impact low-income students, the Reishers established the program to fill a critical gap in Colorado student financial aid.
