Transforming safety takes a whole-community approach to crime prevention.
Services and supports that strengthen families. Safe, appealing outdoor spaces where people gather. Employment and economic opportunities. These are some proven ways to prevent crime in neighborhoods -- and keep people in communities and out of jail.
That’s the idea behind Transforming Safety, a new pilot program that will launch in North Aurora and Southeast Colorado Springs in 2018.
Each year, Transforming Safety will provide $2.6 million in grant funds, managed by The Denver Foundation, and $1 million in loans to small businesses as part of a holistic approach to transforming public safety.
Founded by savings in the state prison budget, Transforming Safety is shaped by local planning teams that define community needs and assets and help build a vision of thriving, crime-free communities.
