This Fund was started in memory of David Brooks, who died in 1995 at the age of 12, due to an undetected heart defect. Paul and Laurie Brooks, David's parents, and sister Jessica, set up the fund with The Denver Foundation.
In 2004, they began to explore medical opportunities to help children. They decided to donate Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to schools. However, some school districts were reluctant to have these small life-saving devices. "Unfortunately we know that children do die from heart problems and that AEDs can save lives," said Laurie.
